Dr Maria Papathanasiou is an appointed Lecturer at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Imperial College London (in effect April 2020). She holds a PhD degree in Process Systems Engineering from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London and an MSc from the same department. She completed her undergraduate studies at the School of Chemical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens and she conducted her Diploma Thesis in Food Process Engineering at the Technical University of Berlin. Dr Papathanasiou’s research focuses on the development of Process Systems Engineering tools (modelling, optimisation and control) with application to: (a) personalised medicine (from discovery to delivery), (b) biomanufacturing and (c) food systems engineering. Her research outputs to date have been acknowledged through 20 peer reviewed and conference publications, 26 oral presentation at international conferences and 3 international awards, including one on entrepreneurship. Dr Papathanasiou is also acting as the current Chair of the Young Members Forum for London & South East Coast, Institution of Chemical Engineers.
